It is easy to take your health for granted. Until you can’t. It is easy to trust the health care system. Until. you don’t. In an effort to clear up a sinus problem a year ago, I started a journey that in the end would land me in the ER with a devastated microbiome as a result of an over dosing of antibiotics leading to an infection of a nasty pathogen that infected not only sinuses, but my lungs as well. I could barely breathe. Hence, the trips to the ER. I think of it as a brush with death. The ER nurse chuckled when I said my body felt like post war Dresden. But he said it was a good analogy. So now I am the rebuilding stage. Rebuilding my body’s defense systems. I am told it will be a while. My hope at this point is to soon be able to take walks in the autumn leaves and maybe appreciate the light rains of October. And to feel what it is like to be healthy again.
