An interesting journey into the American legal system that began with the thief of one of my photographs that appeared the 1985 Communications Arts Photography Annual. The original image of the wheelchair was created on the back porch of a house I was living in at the time in Athens Ohio while I was attending graduate school at Ohio University. After moving to Seattle, I used the image in self-promotional calendar and put it out into the world. It would later win an award from CA Magazine and I suppose the rest is history. More or less. There doesn’t seem to be much on the internet about my lawsuit and the fact that my case set a precedent and subsequently helped other artists in their fight to fend off thieves of original works of art.
